Make sure that you don’t cramp your work up on your weebly. Three columns is a little too much. Let your work ‘breath’
Rankin destroy.
To start of the topic we were told to cut or portraits and craft and change or 'destroy' our original images. You could also use you're other portrait and cut out parts of your face and stick them down on your destroyed image. To create a good image you can take inspiration from your favourite musicians or sports and bring that into your work. Rankin got 70musician and told them to destroy their images which they felt resembled their emotions. which then stood next to the image to show the differences made with the original. Rankin used the models inspirations as for his inspiration for his destroyed image. Rankin's project was to celebrate youths music 10th birthday, He likes to encourage his students to create proficient studio portraits. He also likes to emphasise public and world issues before he destroys them.
I'm unsure as to why I destroyed my image in this particular way, But I know I did place and 'destroy' some elements in the particular emotion I was feeling at that point in time. For example the z's coming out my head was because I was tired on that day. For the rest of the image I just placed in items with colour humour to make it funny and amusing. I also took a small part of inspiration from my favourite artist/singer. Im a person who feels often feels exited and happy so I put in the three stripes around the outside of the image.

Double exposure.
In this task we had to take portraits and then mix the images with landscape images to create and 'double exposure' image. Our aim was to produce a series of double exposure portraits that show both man and nature mixed in one. When I first attempted this task I found that It was hard to get quality landscape with would work well with the portraits. We had to consider how we would plant and craft odd or beautiful shots inside they person with in some cases not seeing the face just the landscape image inside of it.
Christopher Relander creates surreal images through the use of his amazing editing and crafting skills. He does this by carefully crafting landscape images with ghostly portraits, which gives the appearance of the landscape inside the portrait. I believe he wanted us to consider a different view of people through the use of the surreal landscape images. He is a artist who was engaged with photography from a early age. But recently specialised in double exposure images. Relander has been double exposing landscapes into mason jars, this to realize a childish dream. He plays with the idea of being an ambitious collector conserving his environments into a large personal collection. He often took images In the area in which he grew up. From basic exposure images to now completely switching over his original image he has now placed landscape images inside bottles and object.
Christoffer Relander uses a technique inspired by multiple exposure to create ‘We Are Nature’: a series of dreamy, surreal images based on the relationship between man and nature. His portrait images had to be taken against a bright background so that they could be mixed In with the landscape image.

My attempt
WWW: I like how I used not a city or woodland landscape image but instead of a close of a building. I also like how rather just blanking out the the background and keeping the face and the landscape image I kept in part of the background but the portrait still kept the priority.
EBI: The only thing which I would have liked to change in my double exposure image would be I would have liked to
increase the sharpness around the head of the model. as you can see Its muffled and lacks good quality around it.
TIPS: For this task I would taken portraits which has the whole of the models head is in view therefore you can around the head which makes your work more precise rather than just having a straight line. I would also advise playing the model against a flat wall and using flash therefore you can have a even more bright wall.
Fragmented portrait.
Fragmented portrait is a way how the photographer/artist uses his portraits but craft them into a particular way to show to differences you can make in the portrait but only using their face to make these differences. So in this task we were given portraits that showed the models whole face, which made it easy to emphasise the change soon to take place. We were told to use photoshop and cut shapes out from the models face. Next were had to copy these shapes and paste them onto different places of our models face. We could also rotate these shapes around each time to give the allusion their moving.
A geometric portrait consists of creating shapes within the face, doing some kind of transformation to these shapes (most commonly doing small things such as rotations), and layering these together. Despite its initial abnormalities, also gives the viewer an odd sense of familiarity and we can almost see through the transformations

Gordin Magnin.
Instructions.
These are the steps in making a geometric portrait. When attempting this try to have a portrait that has the whole face in shot and not parts of it cut off. also attempt to try and use shapes that can move around along the face and make a good image.
Did you do this with your own photos too?
My attempt.
In my attempt I attempted to try use distinctive parts of there faces and use it my advantage, for example using there eyes mouth or just face as a whole. I believed it could make my image more distinctive, I liked how in my first image the eyes appeared to being following the mouth. My intentions where to try cut shapes and move these shapes around the face in which not visibly possible to picture. If i had to do this again I would have liked to make a gift out of the picture but use the eyes on a continuous loop following the back of it. I also would of liked to has even angle that the face rotated on so that it gives the weird allusion of all the eyes moving around.
In this task I was required to manipulate portraits on Photoshop and take inspiration from Magnin's images. My intentions were to convey that you can transform an image in whatever way you wish. This links to the theme of Force and Portrait Transformation as it shows the warping of photos through using editing methods.
Force of nature.
The relentless battle between man and the natural environment that he Inhabit's is one that holds endless visual possibilities. The buildings and structures that man builds as symbols of prosperity and status are at their basic level simply a means of protection from the harsh environment that surrounds him.
In the first task we had to travel around places where nature had interacted and in some cases taken over the man made environment that it surrounds. for example ivy. you can also photograph nature where all had died and that piece of nature survived. Also you can photograph nature which has been taken over by man. for example a abandoned house. We do this to show the different experiences that nature has experienced.

These are my images from forces of nature task. I attempted to show images in which nature is being taken over has died. I tried to show where man made objects had replaced nature. I like how the image of the fountain which had been covered in moss and had cigarettes inside of it. This clearly shows how nature has been engulfed by the bad side of nature.
Applied force.
In this task we were required to find examples of nature taking over in the human environment. This could be anything from weeds growing out of a building, too finding derelict human objects in foreign environments. I tried to stick too nature being the dominant force, as i felt this had a more powerful message overall. The hardest part about taking these photos is using what we know about composition, and lighting to take pictures that actually showed some sort of dominance. Use of lighting allowed me to take some more eery outcomes, rather than just taking "nice" photos, as sometimes faults in an image make it more powerful. Composition allowed me to make nature have a more threatening, dominant appearance.
For these images I tried to use fruits or objects that when destroyed would produce large vibrant colours for example the orange. although the ground was muddy I believe the oranges produced a very vibrant colour which looked great to photograph. Many others look great when destroyed especially against the black chalky background.
WWW: I believed that I chose good objects to destroy and photograph due to what could happen when these items were destroyed. I chose to use fruits and object which can give a big affect when they are destroyed.
Francois Delfosse.
Delfosse intended create a illusion in his images, by creating such vivid ice landscapes with plastic bags. He does this by focusing on form, texture, lighting, colour, but also composition. this allows him to create dark cave-like situations. He make sure to photograph the bag in such a way that makes the bag look like mountain tops. This allows viewers to picture the bags in anyway or life.
For these images Delfosse uses one large clear plastic bag and small plastic bag with a light opening at the top. he took them both looking into the darkness from the light so it creates a contrast when entering the bag. He also uses a light source coming from above to make the bag look like a cave or a tunnel with one way out.

My attempt.
In this task we had take pictures of plastic in perfect focus in order to show each individual crease to make the bag look like the sea or mountains. I made sure to have a even aperture so that all the plastic bag would be in focus. For these images i tried to make one part of the bag out of focus and one part of the bag in focus. I did this so that it would create a contrasting aperture and a juxtaposing light. I tried to make these images look like mountains or the sea by changes the light by blue.
For these images I didn't use photoshop or any type of editing techniques, nor did i use a blue plastic bag. For these images I kept the same ISO and the same aperture but the only difference i made was by turning on tungsken light. By doing this it made the bags appear to be sky blue. Which made these bag seems like mountain tops.
I like how i mixed around the aperture so that at some points the front is in focus and at some points the back is in focus, Therefore it created a contrast as to where the light entered from. I also like how I had some images almost completely out of focus apart from some small sections of the image.
Force of architecture.
In this task i was required to photograph buildings with a peculiar or fascinating shape. I tried to photograph the buildings using different angles to show that London is a city that towers over you and really puts you in perspective, it makes you feel small and unimportant in a large bustling city full of people with so much to do yet so little time. I tried to emphasise negative space in my images and tried to use the suns light to create shadows around buildings. I focused my images around building blocks and estates due these buildings having many symmetrical imagery.
When taken these photographs of
1/3 strand: Force of water
For my first strand I chose force of water , this is because i found this task and previous task based around water to be the most fun and entertaining to photograph. In previous task based around water I found that these task are challenge as well as entertaining to photograph. For these pictures i tried to capture the water just as the ballon exploded in order to try and keep its shape. For these images i used a high ISO and shutter speed and focus the camera in the white background where the exact point the balloon would explode. I also had to keep the camera directly in the middle in order to make the image evenly spaced apart on either side. By doing this it caught the balloon just at the point of impact, making it at some points the perfect image.
Bill Viola
Bill viola is the photographer who i have based my force of water on. I have made my images trying to involve the way how Bill Viola photographs his images. Bill viola used a pool with little light except from where the model came from. By doing this Bill creates sense of uncertainty for the viewer. Bill takes these images with a water proof case over his camera. His works focus on the ideas behind fundamental human experiences such as birth, death and aspects of consciousness. So in these images Bill i believed is trying to show the viewer a sense of death.

My images.
To do:
- Not enough developments here- you need to develop a strand through two steps. Do not delete anything.
- Try these two ideas:
- Left pic: Susan Derges. Pour water in front of someone- have a really shallow depth of field.
- Right pic: Unknown photographer- throw water at someone or continue to burst balloons. Crop and alter colour / tone etc.
- Explore HDR photography to capture heightened reality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aT1RmXXeiSM
- Make sure you have a fast shutter speed.
